Gabrielle Aplin – The Power of Love

I admit that I’m out of my depth when it comes to popular music, but I recognise that the latest John Lewis Christmas Advert song, ‘The Power of Love’, sung by Gabrielle Aplin has already made an impact on the public. Viewings of the YouTube video to date are at 1,638,486!   When I heard the song this morning on BBC Essex Radio I could hardly make out the words, but here they are:

Dreams are like angels
They keep bad at bay
Love is the light
Scaring darkness away
I'm so in love with you
Make love your goal

The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
Flame on burn desire

Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal

This is a shortened version of The Frankie Goes to Hollywood song. Gabrielle sings a fuller, but incomplete version on her official YouTube Vevo site.*

Here are the extra words:

I'll protect you from the hooded claw
Keep the vampires from your door
When the chips are down I'll be around
With my undying death defying love for you
Envy will hurt itself
Let yourself be beautiful
Sparkling light, flowers and pearls and pretty girls
Love is like an energy
Rushing in, rushing inside of me, hmmm...

The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal

This time we go sublime
Lovers entwined divine divine
Love is danger, love is pleasure
Love is pure, the only treasure
I'm so in love with you
Make love your goal

The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
The power of love
A force from above
A sky scraping dove
Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal

Make love your goal

P.S. Paul the Apostle certainly knew of Love’s power. (1 Corinthians 13)See also 1 John 4:8.
