According to my preferences regarding appearance/aesthetics,
I don’t see the Vivacity 650 as being attractive, but in practical terms she
has her good points: primarily her large supportive bilge keels, easy
underwater lines and commodious accommodation with two separate cabins on a 7’
2” beam. A decent galley placed amidships to starboard and a folding chart
table by the companionway to port make a lot of good sense; the galley is where
there is least movement, and the chart table is where it can be seen from the cockpit.
These family friendly boats, designed primarily for day
sailing and cruising, were built by Russell Marine Ltd* who were in business
between 1959 and 1980. The Vivacity 650 was first built in 1970 and she was an
extended version of the Vivacity 20** but with an entirely different deck and
cabin trunk structure. Back in the 70s, before regular furling Genoas were common
her large wardrobe of five headsails would have been useful for adjusting the
sail area to suit the current wind strength.
