Monument to Damien Hurst

Damien Hurst’s latest travesty has today been erected at the picturesque North Devon seaside town of Ilfracombe. His 66’ high bronze statue representing ‘Verity’, the Roman mythological goddess of truth, points her sword of truth to the sky. She stands unashamedly naked, facing the sea in defiant gesture; her back is towards the town. Seemingly, a post-mortem has taken place without her knowing, revealing that she is pregnant. Her side has been cut away to show her secret and rather nauseating inward parts. Before being unveiled she will be given the scales of justice to hold them ignominiously below her buttocks.

‘Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.’ (Philippians 4:8)
