Preparation is the key to success with many an operation.
When it comes to home decorating, a firm foundation for paint or wallpaper is
paramount; without it, you will not achieve a satisfying result. By making good
the underlying surfaces you provide a foundation for undercoats and uppers.
At a prep school the foundations are laid for entry to
public or independent schools. These fee-paying schools coach their pupils for common
entrance examinations set by the Independent Schools Examinations Board.
Whatever the schooling, the main purpose of schools and colleges is to equip students
for adult life by providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge for
gainful employment and for living fruitfully within communities.
Without an adequate education, a person lacks a firm
foundation for self-fulfilment and for achieving their inherent potential.
Parents have an important role in laying foundations for
their offspring. They may not be well equipped for educating their children in
the three rs, but they should be capable of inculcating the difference between
right and wrong, good and bad, honesty and dishonesty, particularly the
fundamental and important value of honesty.
The foundation for moral behaviour proclaimed by God to
Moses was the Ten Commandments found in Exodus 20:1-17. Jesus summed them up
when a Pharisee asked Him to explain the great commandment of the law. He said,“
‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and
with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is
like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:36-39)
Sadly, today, these things are seldom taught to children;
therefore they lack a sound foundation for moral behaviour.
